What is the definition of a soakaway? Soakaways are primarily used to alleviate the problem of standing surface water. They are made up of a large hole or pit that collects surface water from a drainage pipe and allows it to slowly percolate through the soil, reducing the risk of flooding and increasing the ground's stability.
